In Scotland, the process of administering the estate involves obtaining a Grant of Confirmation from the Sheriff Court. This document legally confirms the executor's authority to deal with the deceased’s assets.

To obtain the Grant of Confirmation, executors must submit an inventory of the deceased's assets and liabilities, along with the completed IHT forms and payment or proof of payment arrangements.

Our next Ask the Expert session will discuss the process of obtaining confirmation in Scotland and will be held on 21 May 2024 by our local expert Lindsay Nicholas.
